Mystery Photo

How disappointing, no one contacted me with the identity of last week’s mystery photo. I know it was a small picture and of a very young little girl but when I tell you who it was and you look at that picture again you will see that it is her. I think I can tell by her eyes. Anyway...the identity of the mystery photo is...Olive Erb Giffey Boots. Now go and look at the picture and you can tell that is who it is.
Okay we have a dilemma, my big computer crashed and until I get it fixed, I have almost no mystery photos. We will have to make do with this one until I get some more from you readers out there. This girl graduated from Ryder High School and now lives in Bismarck and I am expecting to hear from lots of people who will recognize her picture!
The winners in the Christmas light contest were 1st place, Byron Larson, 2nd place, Elvera Petz, 3rd place, Richie Becker and Josh Reinisch took 4th place. Now those were the winners, I just hope that I got them in the right order!
That lovely storm that we had last Sunday gave us around 2 inches of snow and then the one that followed right on it’s heels on Monday dropped an additional 12 inches. We haven’t seen this much snow for many years. And we had another one that came in on New Years Day with another inch or so. It seems that is all everyone is talking about, the temperatures, the wind chill and how many inches of snow we got in the last storm!
Randy and Phyllis Morris were with Don and Ardys Morris over the Christmas Holidays, in Mesa Arizona. Also Judy Orluck was up and had supper with them on the 27th from Tucson, AZ. Ardys said, “We visited with Glen Warner on the computer and saw him eating his supper. Fun was had by all.”
I have another 2008 Christmas Clipping. This one comes from Richard and Judy Kimball:
Merry Christmas!! I just wanted to tell you hello and wish you and your family a Merry Christmas! Both my wife and I look forward to reading the Ryder News in the Garrison paper. Thanks for putting out such good news. We both like the guessing of the pictures. Sometimes I'm right in my guesses but most of the time you have me stumped. And now that you sent me that link for the Ryder Website, I can now get online and read it there also.
The weather here in Colorado is on the cold side right now; reminds me of the good old North Dakota weather. But I guess I shouldn't complain...I see where it's cold in North Dakota too.
Once again...thanks for the effort and good work...MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
On Friday, December 26th, David Olson dropped in on Don and Ardys Morris who are wintering in Mesa, AZ. An added surprise was that Randy Morris and his wife were staying over the Christmas Holidays with Don and Ardys. Randy and David accomplished much ‘catching up’ on what each other had done over the years, and caught up on where and what various upper and lower classmen were doing these days. Coffee and treats served by Ardys were enjoyed by all, and a promise was extracted by David to have Randy give him some golf lessons in March, when Randy plans on returning to the area.
John and Staci McGrath braved the blustery weather to spend New Year’s Day with Ken and Sue Bradley. I think it was just the turkey dinner that they wanted!!
Following the candlelight Christmas Eve service at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Terry and DelRaye Johansen were guests at the Dean and Jenn Rockwell home.
Celebrating Christmas Day with Terry and DelRaye Johansen were Rod Johansen, Green River, WY; Gloria Sullivan, Minot; Darin, Michelle, Garrett, and Austin Johansen, Kenmare; Jamie, Nikki, Alyssa, Morgan, and Emily Johansen, Herb and Tootie Johansen, all of Ryder; and Dean, Jenn, Lora, and Carson Rockwell, Makoti. Terry's, Darin's, Jamie's, Jenn's and Gloria celebrated with Dennis and Mary Peterson and Grandma Gladys Peterson at her home on Sunday, Dec. 28th.
Our sympathy goes out to the family of Catherine Haugen. Catherine passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30th in a Garrison nursing home.
Christmas Eve guests at the home of Ron and Muriel Peterson were, Mildred Peterson, Marion Anderson, and Esther Streeper.
Christmas day guests at Ron and Muriel’s were: Esther Streeper, Mildred Peterson, Rondi, Steve and Carson Deaver from Minot, and Scott, Kari, Ana, and Tate Mart from LaMoure.
Ron Peterson, Rondi, Steve and Carson Deaver went to Bismarck to take Muriel Peterson out for her birthday. Muriel has been staying there with her mother. Later they all went to the hospital to visit with Mick Streeper who is a patient there. While they were at the hospital , Linda and Gary Wagner from Mandan brought a birthday cake for Muriel and they all enjoyed celebrating Muriel’s (Jan 4)and Linda’s (Jan 2)birthdays in a family room across the hall from Mickey’s room.
Kenny and I managed to make our way through the blowing and drifting snow on Saturday night to take in the Sun Prairie Grain Christmas party at the Country Club in Minot. I managed to help our table win a bottle of wine playing trivia and then I won a $10 gas card so I thought it was a fun night!!

I have another deer picture to share with you. Darren
Dobrinski bow shot a deer last Friday about a half mile south
west of the Ryder elevator.
I am so sick of snow and blowing snow and pottying dogs one at a time on a leash so they don’t go over the fence. If I let them all out at the same time, heaven only knows where they would go and then they would freeze their little feet before they managed to find their way back home again! I told Kenny that I might as well be running a doggy day care with all the running they keep me doing.

I’m sharing a picture of their yard in case you didn’t believe
me when I said the snow was up to the top of their fence.
With that said, I am done for this week!! Get pictures to me, I really need them. Have a great week and send me birthday presents as my birthday is the 12th!!
Here is a little poem that I thought you might enjoy.
WINTER POEM
It's winter in North Dakota
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At thirty-five below.
Oh, how I love North Dakota
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave North Dakota
I'm frozen to the ground!
